Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including James Trafford to Newcastle United, Matt O'Riley to Leicester City and Scott Wright's Rangers exit.

Newcastle United are still reportedly interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer.

The 21-year-old made the high-profile switch from Premier League champions Manchester City to the Lancashire Clarets ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Trafford endured a difficult first campaign at the top end of the English game, suffering relegation to the Championship with Vincent Kompany's side.

Due to a lack of form, the England youngster was dropped for the final 10 matches of the Premier League campaign, with Kosovo's Arijanet Muric reassuming the role of first-choice goalkeeper at Turf Moor.

Despite this, it is said that Trafford could be set for a lucrative move back into the top flight during this summer's transfer window, ahead of the 2024-25 term.

According to The Sun, Newcastle remain keen on the former Man City man, who was not included in England's final 26-man squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.

The report states that the Magpies had a £16m bid for Trafford rejected earlier this summer, with the North-East giants set to return to negotiations with an improved offer.

Second-tier Burnley are looking to pocket £30m from the sale of the keeper to Newcastle, who have already signed John Ruddy and Odisseas Vlachodimos for their shot-stopping ranks.

Leicester City identify Dewsbury-Hall replacement?

Elsewhere in the Premier League, it is understood that Leicester City are hoping to find an adequate replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the near future.

The former Luton Town loanee secured a lucrative move to top-flight powerhouses Chelsea at the end of June, joining Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.

With a massive hole left in the King Power Stadium engine room, the Foxes are now attempting to secure the services of Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley, as per The Sun.

The report claims that the Scottish champions want £50m for the influential playmaker, who helped Brendan Rodgers's men to pip arch rivals Rangers to the Premiership crown.

Ex-MK Dons man O'Riley netted 18 goals and provided 13 assists from midfield for the Bhoys during the 2023-24 league campaign, similar numbers to those of Dewsbury-Hall in the Championship.

Despite his stellar performances in Scotland, O'Riley was omitted from Denmark's squad for this summer's European Championships in Germany.

Brighton & Hove Albion were supposedly keen on the 23-year-old but were deterred by Celtic's asking price, while Premier League newcomers Southampton have also been linked with the player.

Rangers attacker Wright on the move?

On top of O'Riley, there could be another notable name from the Scottish Premiership moving across the border to England this summer, with a Championship switch on the cards for a Rangers attacker.

According to Football Insider, second-tier outfit Sheffield Wednesday have offered Scott Wright a contract at Hillsborough ahead of the new season.

With one year left on his current terms at Ibrox, it is understood that the 26-year-old will be allowed to leave should the Gers receive a six-figure sum.

Wright was on the fringes of Philippe Clement's preferred XI last season, making 23 Premiership appearances, with only eight of those coming from the start.

Buoyed by the news that highly-rated head coach Danny Rohl will stay on as boss, Sheffield Wednesday are planning serious improvements to their side as they seek to avoid another Championship relegation battle.

The Owls have already secured the services of former Swansea City marksman Jamal Lowe, who has shown the ability to be a serious attacking threat in the second tier in the past.
