Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez decides to keep the majority of his summer signings on the bench for the Premier League fixture at Cardiff City.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has decided to keep the majority of his summer signings on the bench for the Premier League fixture at Cardiff City.

Benitez made seven additions ahead of the new campaign, but only goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and Kenedy - two players who have returned to St James' Park after loan spells last season - began the opening-day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

That has remained the case for the trip to South Wales, with Federico Fernandez, Ki Sung-yueng, Yoshinori Muto and Salomon Rondon all beginning on the substitutes' bench.

The only change to the starting lineup sees Javier Manquillo brought into the team to replace the injured DeAndre Yedlin.

As for Cardiff, Neil Warnock opts to make as many as four changes from the team which lost out at Bournemouth last weekend.

Harry Arter and Victor Camarasa are both handed their debuts, while Josh Murphy and Kenneth Zohore are also drafted into the first XI.

Lee Peltier, Callum Paterson, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Bobby Reid are the players to miss out.

Cardiff City: Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett, Arter, Ralls, Camarasa; Murphy, Hoilett, Zohore
Subs: Smithies, Richards, Paterson, Reid, Cunningham, Mendez-Laing, Madine

Newcastle United: Dubravka; Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett; Ritchie, Shelvey, Diame, Kenedy; Perez; Joselu
Subs: Darlow, Ki, Murphy, Rondon, Muto, Hayden, Fernandez
