Celtic manager Neil Lennon hails his side's "monumental achievement" as they reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has described his side's progression through to the last 16 of the Champions League as a "monumental achievement".

The Hoops secured their place in the next round of the competition thanks to a nervy 2-1 victory over Spartak Moscow at Parkhead on Wednesday.

"The players have been magnificent," said Lennon. "It is a monumental achievement on their behalf. For the club to be at the big table in the New Year, and to get 10 points, is phenomenal.

"This campaign has been a great learning process and these young lads have grown as it's gone on. This is the premier event, the toughest of the toughest. No-one gave us a prayer going into this group."

The draw for the last 16 of the competition takes place on December 20.
