John Aldridge wants Liverpool to make sure Rafael Benitez does not enjoy his return to Anfield when Chelsea visit this Sunday.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged the club to make sure Rafael Benitez does not enjoy his return to Anfield when Chelsea visit on Sunday.

The Spaniard returned to English football in November when he took over as Chelsea's interim manager, and Aldridge wants his former team to make sure Benitez endures an "unhappy return" to the club where he spent six years.

"Rafael Benitez is guaranteed a good reception when he returns to Anfield with Chelsea this Sunday," Aldridge said in his Liverpool Echo column.

"We all know Rafa still loves the club. His family are settled on Merseyside and he wants his old job back at some point in the future.

"But the reality is that he's the manager of Chelsea and we have to ensure that Sunday is an unhappy return for him. After the initial welcome, we need our fans focused on getting behind Brendan Rodgers and his team."

Benitez managed the Reds from 2004 to 2010, winning the Champions League and the FA Cup during his time with the club.
