Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that Daniel Sturridge will play predominantly as a winger for the Blues, despite the England international's desire for a striker's role.
The 22-year-old recently claimed that he wanted to play regularly up front for the former Premier League champions in order to improve his chances in the England squad.
"There is no purpose in using Daniel up front," said Villas-Boas. "Our conversation at the beginning of the season was that we saw his potential on the wings - not only myself but also [Fabio] Capello and [ex-Chelsea boss Carlo] Ancelotti.
"We know he likes the striker position. It doesn't mean that he cannot perform it to the best and, if needs be, we will use him. But he will be here with us always counting most likely as a right winger."
Meanwhile, the Blues are preparing for an away clash against Newcastle United tomorrow at midday.
