Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill says that the club could still have a successful season, despite the prospect of falling further behind Manchester City on Tuesday.

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has said that the club could still have a successful season, despite the prospect of falling 17 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City on Tuesday.

City could move further ahead of the Blues with a win against Watford, but Cahill has urged Antonio Conte's side to focus on more realistic objectives.

Chelsea open their FA Cup campaign this weekend against Norwich City, before facing Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

"Let's be realistic - City have got a massive points gap, but we just need to keep going," the Blues skipper told the Evening Standard. "There are also other trophies to get so it can be a successful season.

"Let's look at the positives and go for what we can go for. Our run over the last couple of months has been very good, but it's like what the other teams couldn't do with us last year - they couldn't do much about the fact we won 13 games in a row.

"I was looking at Tottenham last year and they kept getting wins, but we were winning all the time as well, so they were probably sat there thinking they couldn't do much more."

Chelsea also face Barcelona in the last sixteen of the Champions League after finishing second in Group C.
