Man City's Kevin De Bruyne: 'I don't need to prove anything on Chelsea return'

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne insists that he does not need to "prove anything" ahead of his return to Chelsea.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has insisted that he does not have to "prove anything" when he takes on his former club Chelsea at the weekend.

The Belgium international was sold to Wolfsburg by the Blues for £18m in 2014, and was brought back to the Premier League by City last year in a £55m deal.

De Bruyne, who recently returned to action from a spell on the sidelines from injury, has scored three goals in his last four matches.

"I don't feel I have to prove anything to anyone because there's nothing really to say," The Mirror quotes De Bruyne as saying. "It's not a case of I played a lot and played badly - I just didn't play.

"It is it what it is and I'm just going there to try and help City win the game, which is really important for us. If we want to put pressure on the teams around us, it's obviously better to take three points, so maybe that will work in our favour because there's no pressure on Chelsea to win now.

"It should be a great game, but we know how hard it will be because it's a tough ground to go to. They're still a top side and they'll be back next season."

City are currently fourth in the Premier League table, 13 points above 10th-placed Chelsea.
