Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne admits that he is unsure whether he will return to Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of his loan spell with Werder Bremen.

Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that he does not want to return to the club to sit on the substitutes' bench.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at German club Werder Bremen and is due back at Stamford Bridge next season, but the Belgium international has insisted that he will not return to sit on the sidelines.

De Bruyne told Bild: "According to plan, I will return to Chelsea in the summer. But in football a lot of things change - very fast.

"That's like in the standings: one week you're in 12th place, then sixth place, then down again. You have to cope with new situations quickly. If Chelsea doesn't want me in the summer, you have to think about other options.

"It's difficult for me to sit on the bench. I know myself, I can't stand it. I want to play football. If not with Chelsea, then one level below Chelsea."

De Bruyne has yet to play for Chelsea after moving from Genk in January.
