Fernando Torres: 'Only goals will cement my place'

Fernando Torres admits that only scoring more consistently will ensure that he becomes Jose Mourinho's undisputed first-choice striker at Chelsea.

Fernando Torres has admitted that only improving his goalscoring tally will see him established as Chelsea's first-choice striker.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has tinkered with his three forward options this season, as Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Torres have scored just five Premier League goals between them.

"If you perform and you score every weekend, then you are going to play," he told Sky Sports News. "That's why [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi never rotate, because they score every game.

"It's just part of the time right now, I never did in Atletico or Liverpool but I do now and it happens in the national team too.

"I'm realistic, I know that I'm not scoring the goals I should and someone is taking my place, that's football."

Torres has scored six goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge outfit this term.
