PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle believes that Chelsea should dismiss captain John Terry if the defender is found guilty of racially abusing QPR centre-back Anton Ferdinand.

Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle believes that John Terry should be sacked from Chelsea if the defender is found guilty of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

The Blues captain has been on trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court this week on a racially-aggravated public order offence and is expected to learn the verdict at 2pm today.

"Do I think football should conform to the rules and regulations of every other work place? Yes," The Express quotes Carlisle as saying.

"In any other walk of life he would have been suspended once the allegation was made. If John Terry is found guilty, it will be interesting to see if anyone has the cojones to bring football into line with the rest of the working world, because it would have to sweep through the whole game."

When asked if that means that the England international should be sacked, Carlisle replied: "Yes, it should."

If found guilty, Terry could face a maximum fine of £2,500.
