The Football Association reportedly decide that referee Mark Clattenburg does not have a case to answer following Chelsea's allegations that he used "inappropriate language" while speaking to midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The Football Association have reportedly decided to clear referee Mark Clattenburg of using alleged "inappropriate language" when addressing Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The 37-year-old came under scrutiny after the Blues accused the match official of making comments, thought to be of a racial nature, during Chelsea's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last month.

It is understood that the English governing body have ruled that Clattenburg does not have a case to answer after they decided that he had said, "Shut up, Mikel" after booking him during the match, according to the Daily Star.

Some reports had claimed that the referee had branded Mikel a "monkey", prompting a police investigation, which was subsequently dropped last week.

An announcement from the FA regarding Clattenburg, who has not officiated in the Premier League for four weeks, is due this week.
