Arsene Wenger slams "pathetic" Chelsea fans involved in Paris Metro incident

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that the Paris Metro incident involving Chelsea fans was "pathetic and dreadful".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has described Tuesday's racism incident involving a group of Chelsea supporters as "pathetic and dreadful".

Chelsea Football Club are working alongside the Metropolitan and Paris police following the incident at a Paris Metro station, where a black man was shoved off a train by a group of the Blues' following.

Video footage of the incident, which was taken prior to Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League, captured the fans chanting, "we're racist, we're racist and that's how we like it".

When asked about the incident in this morning's press conference, Wenger said: "It looked pathetic and dreadful. Unfortunately we have all kinds of that but we have to be extremely severe with any incident of that calibre.

"It is society's problem. Nobody has found a miraculous solution but it starts from childhood and education.

"There is a danger of radical people in every society. There is always a number of people ready for radical solutions and you have to find a way to deal with that."

Yesterday, Chelsea announced that three fans have been suspended from attending Stamford Bridge and they will be issued with lifetime bans should they be found guilty of racist abuse.
