Chelsea to make approach for Real Madrid's Xabi Alonso?

Chelsea could be preparing to offer Xabi Alonso a three-year contract as the midfielder nears the end of his current deal at Real Madrid.

Chelsea could be readying themselves to make a contractual offer to Real Madrid's Xabi Alonso in January, with the midfielder's contract at the Santiago Bernabeu set to expire next summer.

Jose Mourinho has long been an admirer of Alonso's technical qualities and also managed the player during his tenure at Madrid.

A report in The Mirror has suggested that Chelsea could be looking to offer the Spaniard a three-year deal as the Blues seek to strengthen their midfield.

Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League table, with Arsenal leading the pack.
