Antonio Conte quashes David Luiz to Real Madrid rumours

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte dismisses claims that defender David Luiz is on his way to Real Madrid in January.

Antonio Conte has laughed off suggestions that an agreement has been reached between Chelsea and Real Madrid for the January transfer of defender David Luiz.

The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, last featuring in the Premier League five games ago against Bournemouth.

Brazil international Luiz is said to have attracted interest from Madrid, who are reportedly hopeful of finalising a deal in the New Year.

Conte is unsure where the rumours originated, however, joking that talk of him being sacked as Chelsea boss has only just stopped in time for the new gossip to circulate.

Asked if a sale had been agreed earlier this week, he told reporters: "This week? No. I must be honest I don't read this because I don't have time to read. We are playing every three days so my focus is on the pitch, our preparation and my team.

"This is speculation but we pass from my sacking to the Real Madrid [rumours]. We are very fast to pass these two different situations. My focus is only on Chelsea, I'm totally committed for this club and for my players."

Luiz is currently nursing a knee injury that kept him out of the midweek win over Swansea City.
