Guus Hiddink: 'Thibaut Courtois is under contract at Chelsea and enjoys London'

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink says that there could have been some 'miscommunication' with regards to Thibaut Courtois's comments that he could leave the club.

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has responded to speculation over Thibaut Courtois's future by stating that the goalkeeper is under contract and enjoys living in London.

The Belgium international was quoted in the media last week suggesting that he could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Real Madrid have been linked with a record-breaking move for Courtois in the summer, but Hiddink has claimed that the footballer could have been misquoted.

"I don't know if he said it, I haven't read it," Hiddink said in Friday's press conference. "He is formally under contract, he and his family like to be in London, in the club, so it's difficult to say.

"I don't know. I always like to give comment when I have talked about an issue which might be a little tricky. I also like the opinion of the player as well. Sometimes things can be miscommunicated. Knowing him a bit, I like to go in that way, and talk to him first. I don't want to overvalue it in his comments."

Courtois and his Chelsea teammates will end the season without silverware as they are out of the cup competitions, as well as the Champions League, and are 25 points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City.
