Jose Mourinho: 'Chelsea need a striker for next season'

Jose Mourinho confirms that Chelsea will try to sign a striker in the summer.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he wants to sign a striker in the summer.

The Portuguese made the comments following his side's 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace away from home in the Premier League on Saturday.

"Every match matters," The Mirror quotes the 51-year-old as saying. "But these matches, when you have to win, obviously they matter. I don't think it's the moment to speak about next season and the market, but it's clear to everybody that Chelsea next year wants to bring a striker.

"That is clear. It's also clear we want to improve our players. What's the future for the [current Chelsea] strikers? The ones that are staying are competing with the striker we are bringing.

"And normally at the end of the season, players that are not playing a lot or players who are not happy and prefer a change, that is also part of the market. We want to improve the team and the players and make some surgical movements in the transfer window."

Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o are the three recognised strikers at Chelsea at the moment.
