Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to launch a bid for Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson in the final days of the transfer window.

Tottenham are reportedly expected to launch a bid for Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson in the closing stages of this summer's transfer window.

The attacker was a key part of Steve Cooper's side who retained their Premier League status last term following a 20-year absence from the top flight of English football.

Johnson scored eight goals and provided three assists in 38 league appearances, representing a consistent threat in a Forest outfit which experienced a lot of changes over the course of the campaign.

The 22-year-old is also starting to become an integral part of his national side, having earned 20 caps for Wales since making his debut in August 2020.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham are set to launch a bid for Johnson in the final few days of the transfer window as they look to bolster their attacking ranks.

It is understood that Forest are demanding £50m for their talismanic attacker, who graduated out of the club's academy in August 2019 before moving on loan to Lincoln City in 2020.

The report claims that Spurs are currently unwilling to pay Forest's asking price for Johnson, meaning that they are looking to negotiate a lower fee with the East Midlands club before the window slams shut.

It is believed that Cooper's men have already rejected a bid in the region of £40m for the Wales international this summer, with the two-time European champions remaining stubborn at their valuation of the player.

A separate report earlier this month stated that Johnson has informed a number of his close friends that he would prefer a move to Spurs this summer, with a number of other Premier League clubs interested in the forward.

Spurs' London rivals Chelsea and West Ham United are supposedly keen on the 22-year-old, however he is said to currently favour a move to North London in order to link with up Ange Postecoglou.

Undergoing a rebuild under the stewardship of the former Celtic boss, Spurs have splashed out £165m on new arrivals so far this summer, however they recouped over £100m from the sale of all-time leading scorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Postecoglou is bringing an attacking style of football back to Spurs, and the Australian made it successive wins in the Premier League with a 2-0 success at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the need to replace the goals of Kane, the 50-year-old has stated the club's main focus is on ensuring further outgoings before September, with 30 first-team players on the books for the Lilywhites, who can only name 25 in their final league squad.

It remains to be seen whether Johnson will still be a Forest player when they travel to face Mauricio Pochettino's Blues at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
