Gary Cahill yearning for World Cup chance

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits that he is desperate to feature in the World Cup this summer after injury robbed him of the chance to play at Euro 2012.

Chelsea's Gary Cahill has admitted that he has had one eye on the World Cup all season after missing out on the 2012 European Championships through injury.

The Three Lions defender was forced to withdraw from Roy Hodgson's squad for the tournament after suffering a double fracture to his jaw in a warm-up match.

He has since returned to the England team to become a regular at centre-back and is desperate to be playing in Brazil so that he can forget the disappointment that surrounded him two years ago.

"The chance to play in the World Cup is a big incentive to me," Cahill told The Mirror.

"It has been a big incentive for me all season after missing out on the Euros and being part of the qualification games.

"You want your country to qualify for the World Cup and then you want to be part of it. I've not been to a major tournament yet so I'm hoping to be on the plane."

Cahill has been capped 22 times by England since debuting in 2010.
