Aston Villa's Fabian Delph hopes for future England call

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph remains hopeful that he will receive an England call-up, but is resigned to missing out on securing a World Cup place.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is hopeful that "one day" he will receive a call-up to the England senior team, but expects to miss out on a World Cup spot this summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed for Villa, but the midfielder is yet to earn his first senior cap for the Three Lions under manager Roy Hodgson.

Delph was also overlooked for this month's friendly win over Denmark, which was the final match before Hodgson names his provisional squad for the World Cup in Brazil.

"My job's just to try to perform my best for my club," the Birmingham Mail quotes Delph as saying. "I think it's in every player's head and it's every player's ambition to represent their country but I think I might be a bit away from that.

"There seems to be a lot of quality midfield players that are English that are probably above me at the minute. I'll keep grafting and maybe one day."

Delph scored the winning and only goal in Villa's triumph over Chelsea on Saturday.
