Club Brugge confirm that they have parted company with head coach Scott Parker after their 7-1 aggregate defeat to Benfica in the Champions League last 16.

Club Brugge have confirmed that they parted company with head coach Scott Parker after just 12 matches in charge.

At the turn of the year, the Englishman was the surprise appointment at the Belgian giants after Carl Hoefkens had been removed from the lead position in the dugout.

Parker arrived at the Jan Breydel Stadium with Club Brugge sitting in fourth position in the Jupiler Pro League, 12 points adrift of leaders Genk.

However, rather than Parker's arrival leading to an upturn in fortunes for the defending champions, Club Brugge made no improvements under the 42-year-old.

The Blauw-Zwart had collected just 12 points from 10 league matches, winning only twice, ahead of the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie at Benfica.

Trailing 2-0 from the first fixture, Club Brugge were clear underdogs to overturn that deficit, but they tamely succumbed at the home of the Portuguese giants.

On the back of the 5-1 loss, Parker acknowledged that he did not know if he would still be in charge for Club Brugge's next fixture, at home to Standard Liege on March 12.

Just 19 hours after the humiliating defeat at Estadio da Luz, Club Brugge have announced that they have sacked the former Bournemouth boss.

A short statement read: "Scott Parker is no longer head coach of Club Brugge.

"Parker (42) was announced as the new head coach of Club Brugge on December 31 last year. The English ex-international previously worked for Fulham and Bournemouth and replaced Carl Hoefkens at Club. In 12 games, the Briton could only win two times."

Having been removed from his position at Bournemouth in August, Parker has now been sacked by two clubs in just over six months.
