Costa Rica demand a rematch with the USA after they were beaten 1-0 in blizzard conditions in Denver.

The Costa Rican football federation has demanded a rematch with USA after their World Cup qualifying match was played in a blizzard on Saturday.

The Americans secured a vital 1-0 win in Denver thanks to Clint Dempsey's winner, in atrocious conditions that regularly required the pitch markings to be made visible in the snow.

Costa Rica, who are now bottom of a six-team table where the top three are guaranteed a place in Brazil next year, are furiously demanding that the game is replayed.

Eduardo Li, president of the federation, told the Zona Tecnica football show: "We [have] already handed a formal report and complaint within 24 hours post-match, according to the regulations. We attached videos and claimed this match must be played again.

"It was terrible. While the match was being played, at the same time, machines and people came onto the field to clean the lines.

"We fought - we talked to the [match] commissioner, who totally rejected our complaint. These are embarrassing situations we should not accept."

USA currently have three points from two games following the result in Denver, while Costa Rica have one from the same number of matches.
