Chris Coleman thanks fans for their support following the Gary Speed memorial match.

Chris Coleman has thanked the fans for their support following the Gary Speed memorial match against Costa Rica last night.

The Wales boss, who was taking charge of the side for the first time since being named Speed's replacement, was unable to guide the Dragons to a win. However, the former Fulham boss insists that there was more to the night that winning or losing.

"This was about one man and it was important we were there to show our support and celebrate his life," he said. "It was a fantastic turnout.

"It was difficult under the circumstances, it was not our normal preparation. We were still grieving but, at the same time, we had a game to win.

"At the start we weren't at the races. We had a couple of chances after that but the main reason for tonight was for Speed."

Arsenal's Joel Campbell, who is on loan at Lorient, scored the winner for the visitors.
