John Ryan is delighted to have secured Paul Dickov as the club's new manager.

The chairman of League One champions Doncaster Rovers John Ryan has revealed his delight at securing Paul Dickov to be the club's new manager.

Dickov was appointed yesterday following the resignation of previous manager Brian Flynn at the beginning of the month.

"I am absolutely ecstatic because it has been a long process," Sky Sports News quotes Ryan as saying. "We know there have been several other clubs interested in Paul Dickov. But we got our man, it's great and we can really move forward.

"He is young, enthusiastic and has all the qualities we feel we need to take us on in the Championship. I like the way he plays football, but the bottom line is he's a winner.

"The fans will come to love him just as I have. He has achieved a lot in the game. He was told he was too small to play football but he played in the Premier League for Arsenal and Manchester City. I like a guy that overcomes obstacles and he did that at Oldham, he managed to keep them running along."

Dickov was previously manager of Oldham Athletic, where he resigned in February.
