Kevin Trapp: 'We threw it away'

Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp says that not holding on to two leads against Porto was a huge disappointment.

Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has admitted that the players let the fans down in their Europa League last-32 defeat to Porto on away goals on Thursday night.

Trapp said that Frankfurt should have been able to hold on to the 2-0 or the 3-2 leads, but he was still happy that the German side put up some strong resistance against Porto over two legs.

"We should never have let this happen," he told Bundesliga.com. "We were 2-0 up and 3-2 up and should have seen the game through. Porto had the quality to take the pace out of the game at 3-3.

"Our fans were exceptional tonight. We're really disappointed for ourselves and for them. However, what's important is that we proved we don't have to hide against a side capable of playing in the Champions League. So we've got to take that belief forward. We know we're capable of winning games against top clubs.

"The way we took our goals was fantastic. We'll see on Sunday whether we can move clear of the drop zone. We'll need to push ourselves to the limit once again, We're compensating for injuries, brushing off setbacks and yet always manage to come back and perform."

Sunday sees Frankfurt take on Stuttgart at home in a bottom half of the table Bundesliga clash.
