Preview: Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Olympiacos - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's Europa League clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympiacos, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

The top two teams in Group D will collide on Thursday as Eintracht Frankfurt look to overtake their opponents and continue their undefeated start to the 2021-22 Europa League competition.

However, that will not be an easy feat, with Olympiacos having won both of their games so far as they head into this fixture with an 11-match unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Frankfurt kickstarted their Europa League adventure with a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce when Sam Lammers found the back of the net to earn his team a point.

However, away from home in their second match, the German outfit were more impressive, defeating Royal Antwerp 1-0, but it did take a 91st-minute penalty from Goncalo Paciencia to make that happen.

Even though their performances may not have been the most dominant, Oliver Glasner's squad have got four points on the board, sitting in second place as they head into the midway point of the group stage.

Frankfurt followed up their victory against Antwerp with an impressive win over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga as they came from behind to defeat them 2-1.

However, they were unable to follow that up with another three points when they played Hertha Berlin at the weekend, suffering a loss as they now head into Thursday's clash with Olympiacos.

The visitors are in fine form right now, having not lost in 11 matches, which includes two victories in the Europa League, putting them top of Group D.

Pedro Martins has seen his team defeat Antwerp and Fenerbahce already, scoring five goals in the process, showcasing their attacking qualities.

However, they have been just as impressive in the league, where they are undefeated in their opening six games, sitting on top with 14 points.

Last season, the Greek club managed to reach the round of 16 in the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage, and they will no doubt be hoping to go even further than that this year.

A victory has the potential to set them five points clear if the other fixture goes their way, which would put Olympiacos in a very strong position heading into the final three matches.

Team News

Frankfurt should be able to welcome Rafael Santos Borre back into the starting XI after he missed out on Saturday, being used from the bench after his time away on international duty.

However, Glasner has been without several players lately due to injuries with Aymen Barkok, Christopher Lenz, Sebastian Rode and Amin Younes all being doubts once again for Thursday.

Olympiacos will continue to be without Konstantinos Fortounis who is set to miss the vast majority of the season due to a cruciate ligament rupture.

Other than that, Martins could name an unchanged team to continue the momentum that his squad is currently enjoying at the moment.

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp; Hinteregger, Hasebe, Ndicka; Chandler, Jakic, Sow, Kostic, Hauge; Borre, Lammers

Olympiacos possible starting lineup:
Vaclik; Lala, Cisse, Papastathopoulos, Reabciuk; M. Camara, Bouchalakis; Onyekuru, A. Camara, Masouras; Tiquinho

We say: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Olympiacos

Both teams are in good form when it comes to their respective leagues and because of that they will each head into this fixture with plenty of confidence.

However, Olympiacos are likely to just edge this game, which is a victory that would give them a fantastic chance of qualifying from the group.
