Peter Crouch rejected Euro 2012 appearance

Roy Hodgson says that Peter Crouch refused to be placed on the stand-by list for Euro 2012.

Peter Crouch is in England exile after manager Roy Hodgson revealed that the forward refused to be on the stand-by list for Euro 2012.

The Stoke City striker, who recently declared that he and new strike partner Michael Owen could force their way into the Three Lions squad, was overlooked for the opening World Cup qualifiers.

This was despite injuries to Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll, and Hodgson has insisted that Crouch will be picked when he is good enough for the 23-man squad.

"I selected him for the Euros but he didn't want to come," said Hodgson.

"He made it clear that unless he was in the squad he didn't want to be considered.

"As a result, we've selected squads since that time when I felt I didn't need him here. I'm not going to bring him here to fill up the bench. The day Crouch gets in the England squad is when I think he should be in the original 23."

Crouch's last appearance for England came against France in November 2010.
