England draw Spain, Croatia in Nations League

England draw Spain and Croatia in the Nations League, while Republic of Ireland are given a reunion with Wales and Denmark.

England have been paired with Spain and Croatia in the Nations League, while Republic of Ireland and Wales will square off in the opening stages of the tournament.

The newly-formed UEFA tournament is being used in an attempt to give international teams more competitive fixtures, and the draw in Lausanne has thrown up a number of intriguing matches.

Gareth Southgate's side were always going to be drawn against two of European football's better sides, and they will play both Spain and Croatia during the back end of 2018.

Republic of Ireland have been handed an immediate reunion with Wales and Denmark, two teams who they faced in their failed bid to qualify for this summer's World Cup.

Northern Ireland must play both Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Scotland have games against Albania and Israel

The highlight of the draw was Germany, France and the Netherlands making up Group A1, with European champions Portugal meeting both Italy and Poland.

Teams will be promoted between League A, B, C and D, with the finals of the tournaments taking place in June 2019.
