Jack Butland plays down England chances

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland admits that he is lacking the experience to displace Joe Hart in the England starting lineup just yet.

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has admitted that he does not yet have the experience to displace Joe Hart as England's number one goalkeeper.

Butland has established himself as first choice for the Potters this season and has been widely praised for his performances, making more saves than any other goalkeeper in the division.

The 22-year-old, who kept another clean sheet in a goalless draw with Arsenal this afternoon, has been tipped to challenge Hart for a place in the England starting lineup in Euro 2016, but he insists that his primary focus is currently on playing well for Stoke.

"It is a target for me [playing for England]. I am a long way from that in experience. For me, it is my first Premier League season so I want to play as well as I can and try to get myself in there," he told reporters.

Butland also praised opposite number Petr Cech for his display in the stalemate at the Britannia, adding: "[Cech's] record speaks for itself. First half he had no saves to make but when we turned up the pressure he made the saves. That is the sign of a top keeper."

Butland has made three appearances for England so far.
