The Football Association have announced that Birmingham City's Nathan Redmond has replaced Tottenham Hotspur forward Andros Townsend in the England Under-21 squad.
The 21-year-old was forced to withdraw from Stuart Pearce's squad ahead of this summer's European Under-21 Championships due to allegations of betting.
In a statement, the FA said: "Townsend has withdrawn himself from the squad after the FA announced charges against him in relation to alleged betting offences.
"Townsend will receive the full support of the FA and Tottenham Hotspur FC in seeking rehabilitation whilst responding to the allegations."
Townsend spent the second half of the season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, who suffered relegation to the Championship.
