Wayne Rooney wants Roy Hodgson to stay as England manager for "few more years"

England captain Wayne Rooney is hopeful that manager Roy Hodgson will coach the national side for a "few more years".

England captain Wayne Rooney is hopeful that the Football Association will offer Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson a new contract.

FA chairman Greg Dyke recently revealed that he will hold contract talks with Hodgson within the year.

The 67-year-old, whose current deal expires after next summer's European Championships in France, kept his job after last year's World Cup in Brazil, despite England failing to progress past the group stage.

In today's press conference, when asked about Hodgson's contract situation, Rooney told reporters: "That's down to the FA and Roy, but since I have worked with him he has been fantastic for me and great for the team. Hopefully they will sit down and sort something out and we can have a few more years with him."

England will take on Lithuania in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday evening.
