West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen and Leicester City's James Justin have earned their first England call-ups for June's Nations League fixtures.

West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen and Leicester City's James Justin have earned their first England call-ups for the Nations League.

Bowen's 2021-22 season saw the 25-year-old rack up 18 goals and 13 assists in 51 outings for David Moyes's side, including double figures in goals and assists in Premier League action.

Bowen was nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Season award following his stellar campaign, and the West Ham man is one of two players to have earned their maiden call-ups.

Explaining Bowen's call-up to the press on Tuesday, Gareth Southgate said: "Consistently strong performances. We were certainly thinking about involving him in March before he got injured. He is a goal threat and he is direct. His journey is really interesting in terms of the experiences he has had.

"It's a reminder you don't have to be at an elite academy and come through that pathway. Coming through the lower divisions is also a great route he worked incredibly hard for the team. He has thoroughly deserved his call-up."

Former Under-21 international Justin only made 19 appearances for Leicester throughout the campaign due to a serious knee injury, but the 24-year-old has nevertheless earned a first call-up to the senior team.

However, there is no room in the squad for Justin's Foxes teammate James Maddison, who misses out despite amassing 18 goals and 12 assists continentally and domestically throughout the campaign.

Having recently become a Serie A champion with AC Milan, Fikayo Tomori is also back in the squad and displaces Tyrone Mings, with the Aston Villa man not selected for June's fixtures.

Justin is one of five right-backs to make the England squad for the Nations League, with Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker returning to the fold alongside Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Harry Maguire earns an expected call-up despite his Manchester United struggles this term, and Marc Guehi's impressive performances for Crystal Palace have seen him earn another stint in the squad, but Eric Dier misses out.

Notable absentees from the midfield alongside Maddison include Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe, but Conor Gallagher makes the cut again.

Jack Grealish has endured a difficult debut season at Manchester City but is one of seven attackers in the Three Lions' squad, spearheaded by Harry Kane and Roma talisman Tammy Abraham.

England face a total of four Nations League games in League A Group 3 next month, firstly meeting Hungary in Budapest on June 4 before a trip to the Allianz Arena to face Germany on June 7.

Southgate's side then face Euro 2020 conquerors Italy at Molineux on June 11 before rounding off their June fixtures against Hungary in Wolverhampton three days later.
