Frank Lampard: "It's a good result"

Frank Lampard says that he was pleased with the way in which England "showed character to win a point" at home to Ukraine this evening.

Frank Lampard has said that he was pleased with the way in which England "showed character to win a point" at home to Ukraine this evening.

The Chelsea midfielder converted an 87th-minute penalty to secure a 1-1 draw at Wembley, after Yevhen Konoplianka had opened the scoring with a long-range strike late in the first half.

England forward Jermain Defoe had earlier had a goal controversially ruled out for an apparent foul on Andriy Yarmolenko.

"I'm very pleased to see the penalty, it hit the back of the net," said Lampard. "Nobody understands why Jermain Defoe's goal was disallowed, it wasn't a foul at all and we are not happy.

"We wanted to win the game but considering the circumstances we showed character to win a point. It's a long group and it's a good result considering we were 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go."

The Three Lions' next match in Group H is at home to San Marino on Friday October 12.
