Everton defender Sylvain Distin insists that the club are doing "really well" despite their faltering form in recent weeks.

Everton defender Sylvain Distin believes that Everton fans need to be "realistic" about the club's ambitions this season.

The Toffees impressed in the opening months of the season to be a constant fixture in the top four of the Premier League table but despite falling to sixth place in recent weeks, the 34-year-old has insisted that the club are still having a good season.

Distin told Sky Sports News: "A lot of people will moan at us for not winning games but remember where we were at this time last season.

"It is disappointing to be out of the top four but look at how much the teams around us have spent. Look at how much we have spent and we lose a top player every season.

"People have to be realistic. We have to realise that at the moment we are doing really well."

Distin has made 13 appearances for Everton this season.
