Roberto Martinez tips John Stones for England

Everton boss Roberto Martinez tips young defender John Stones for a lengthy England career.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has tipped John Stones for a lengthy career with England.

The youngster has impressed during his time at Goodison Park, and after watching him ably cope with the threat of Andy Carroll in the Blues' 1-0 win against West Ham United on Saturday, the Spaniard believes that the former Barnsley teenager has a bright future at international level.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "He showed that we have a future England international at senior level and someone with an immense, immense career.

"Making your debut as a centre-half at the Britannia Stadium (against Stoke City) is going to test you, but when you have to play against Andy Carroll it's not good enough just to be strong and physical and cope with 50-50 balls, it's understanding when and when not to challenge, having a good relationship with your partner – and he was magnificent."

The Blues are currently sixth in the Premier League.
