Jamie Redknapp: 'Steven Gerrard should never become Liverpool manager'

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that Steven Gerrard's reputation at Anfield could be harmed if he became manager in the future.

Jamie Redknapp believes that Steven Gerrard should avoid becoming a future manager of Liverpool after the captain played his final Anfield match this afternoon.

With Gerrard moving to Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer, the midfielder's last home game ended in defeat after Crystal Palace spoiled his farewell party.

Rumours have already begun regarding what role Gerrard may take on at Liverpool in the future, but Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports 1 after the match, said that becoming manager could ruin his reputation.

The former Reds midfielder said: "The style of football will suit him. LA is a great place to live, the sun will be shining. At some stage your career will come to an end, and another interest is if he will become manager here one day.

"I hope not because he is a hero here and if he comes back as manager he will get the sack and all that legendary status is out the window."

Gerrard's final match for the Reds will be away to Stoke City next Sunday.
