Everton manager Marco Silva: 'I have to hit the ground running'

New Everton boss Marco Silva acknowledges that he has to hit the ground running at Goodison Park after being appointed as Sam Allardyce's successor.

Marco Silva has targeted a fast start as Everton manager, but insists that it will take time before he can get the club fully back on track.

The 40-year-old takes over the Goodison Park reins from Sam Allardyce, who was sacked at the end of the season as the Toffees' fanbase never truly took to his style of play.

Former Hull City and Watford boss Silva intends to keep supporters entertained during a period of transition, although he admits that it cannot come at the expense of results in the early weeks of the new campaign.

"We know what is the next step and it is something you cannot change in one month, you need time, but you need to start to get results from the first moment as well," he told reporters at his unveiling on Monday.

"This is a big project, a huge club. I know what is behind me and what the fans expect from our team and we are ready to prove every day what we want.

"We need to build a strong connection between the team and the fans. When I played here the last two seasons there was a fantastic atmosphere.

"They are demanding and the fans reflect how big the club is so we need to give them some good feelings as well. I am sure if they feel we are doing everything every single match I am sure they will be proud of our team."

Silva was sacked by Watford in January after a run of one win in 11 games, which the Hornets blamed on an "unwarranted" approach from Everton.
