Giuseppe Rossi double sinks Sampdoria

Fiorentina defeat Sampdoria 2-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi courtesy of a first-half brace from Giuseppe Rossi.

Fiorentina have moved into fifth place in Serie A with a 2-1 victory over Sampdoria.

The Viola were given the chance to take the lead in in the 10th minute when Gaetano Berardi was penalised for a foul on Alberto Aquilani, and Giuseppe Rossi stepped up to bury the ball past Junior Costa.

The Italian international then took his tally to 11 for the season with a superb strike six minutes later.

Manolo Gabbiadini grabbed one back for the visitors in the 73rd minute, but the hosts held on for all three points, which takes them within four of third-placed Napoli after 12 games.
