Karim Benzema: 'France can be proud of progression'

Karim Benzema believes that France can be proud of their recent displays after securing top spot in Group E.

France striker Karim Benzema has insisted that the squad can be proud of the way they have performed in the early stages of the World Cup after securing top spot in Group E on Wednesday.

A goalless draw means that France will meet Nigeria in the last 16 next Monday, but Benzema does not believe that the players should be too disappointed about missing out on a third win.

"We would have liked to have won," the Real Madrid forward told TF1. "But there are matches where is it more complicated.

"But we have not lost and we are qualified for the next round. We are proud of our qualification for the last 16."

Switzerland also qualified from Group E thanks to a 3-0 win over Honduras.
