John Arne Riise apologises to fans for Fulham thrashing

Fulham defender John Arne Riise apologises to the club's fans for their performance during their 6-0 defeat to Hull City.

John Arne Riise has apologised to Fulham fans for the team's performance during their 6-0 defeat to Hull City.

All of the Tigers' goals came in the second half as they thrashed Rene Meulensteen's side at the KC Stadium yesterday.

The defender told the club's official website: "Before I talk about the game itself I'd just like to apologise to all the fans. They deserved more than that, we let them down. We appreciate the support that they give both at home and on our travels.

"I don't think we played particularly well in the first half but, at the same time, I don't think Hull put us under too much pressure either. At the break, we really believed that we could get something from the game. I'd had a good chance earlier on, but we needed to create more.

"I've been in the game for a long time, and sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit that you weren't good enough. This defeat has hurt us, make no mistake about that. There's no getting away from it, but we just have to do our best to move on and put things right."

The result leaves Fulham in the relegation zone.
