Guinea win drawing of lots to advance to AFCON quarter-finals

Guinea win the drawing of lots to advance to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Mali.

Guinea have been handed a place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after winning this afternoon's drawing of lots.

Mali are the side to miss out after the controversial system was used to separate the two teams following Wednesday's 1-1 draw.

Both sides had identical records in Group D, which resulted in the drawing of lots method being used in the tournament for the first time since 1988.

Guinea will go head to head with Ghana on Sunday afternoon for a place in the semi-finals.
