Everton finished their Premier League campaign by easing to a 2-0 victory over Hull City at the KC Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors started positively by taking the lead in just the ninth minute when Allan McGregor failed to keep out James McCarthy's powerful effort.

Romelu Lukaku, playing the final game of his loan spell with the club, added a second with a calm finish in the opening minute of the second half to complete a routine win for the Toffees.

Was the result fair?

There won't be a Hull supporter who will argue that their side deserved anything from this match today. Everton were completely dominant from the first whistle and, apart from a five-minute spell late on, it was one-way traffic throughout at the KC Stadium.

Hull's performance

It was clear from early on in the match that Hull were already focusing on next week's FA Cup final against Arsenal. Their performance lacked intensity, and it was not the usual Hull display we've been used to seeing from Steve Bruce's side this season. They dealt with plenty of Everton attacks, but their inability to cause the visitors problems going forward was a big disappointment. A very good return to the Premier League ends with a poor performance.

Everton's performance

It was what we've come to know as a trademark display from Roberto Martinez's Everton team. Their passing was simply brilliant to watch as they forced the hosts to chase shadows for most of the game. At times it seemed like a training session for the visitors as they dominated in every area of the pitch. Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin were barely troubled at the back, while James McCarthy and Gareth Barry controlled the game from midfield.

James McCarthy: It was a faultless display from the midfielder. McCarthy has started life at Everton very impressively, and he finally managed to pen his account on the last day of the Premier League season. There's not many better passers of the ball around in the country, and he seems perfectly suited to what Martinez is trying to do with the Toffees.

Biggest gaffe

Despite being second best throughout the match, Hull had the opportunity to set up a dramatic finish late on. However, Curtis Davies failed to show composure from only a few yards out as he sent a free header wide of the target.

Referee performance

Howard Webb enjoyed a comfortable day at the office. An optimistic appeal for a penalty from Matty Fryatt was correctly turned down by the man in the middle, who will be content with his display.

What next?

Hull: Bruce's side can now fully focus on next Saturday's FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Everton: Key loan signings Lukaku and Barry are on their way out, so it will be an important summer in the transfer market for Martinez.
