Inverness Caledonian Thistle to fight Josh Meekings charge

Inverness Caledonian Thistle vow to fight the SFA's decision to charge Josh Meekings for his handball against Celtic.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have confirmed that they will contest the Scottish Football Association's decision to charge Josh Meekings for his handball against Celtic.

Meekings has been issued with a notice of complaint over the incident, which saw him get away with handling the ball on the line during his side's Scottish Cup semi-final win on Sunday.

The 22-year-old defender, who will face a tribunal on Thursday, has been offered a one-match ban that would see him miss next month's final against Falkirk.

However, Inverness have announced that they intend to fight the punishment.

"The club intends to vigorously defend our player and is taking legal advice on the issue," read an official statement. "We are extremely disappointed that this has arisen and the player himself is mentally shattered at the turn of events. Josh is keen to appear in person at the disciplinary hearing and we will most strongly support him by all means available."

Celtic confirmed on Monday that they had written to the SFA asking why Meekings was not punished at the time.
