Aaron Cresswell encourages Ipswich Town fans to get behind Lee Martin, rather than heap criticism upon him.

Ipswich Town's Aaron Cresswell has urged the club's supporters to lay off his teammate Lee Martin.

The former Manchester United trainee has been heavily criticised by a number of fans, who have been left frustrated by a string of poor crosses into the penalty area.

However, despite admitting that Martin's delivery is not always the best, Cresswell has insisted that Martin is one of Ipswich's "best players".

"I think Lee Martin is one of our best players," he told the East Anglian Daily Times. "Fans see it different but the Bristol game was unlucky, when he missed. And, if you look at the statistics, he does the most running in our team and he has got the most assists.

"OK, his crossing is sometimes not the best but myself, Carlos Edwards, Richard Stearman and Bradley Orr, when he was here, have not always put in the best deliveries either."

Martin's contract at Portman Road is due to expire in the summer.
