Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy: 'Draw would have been a fair result'

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says that his team deserved a draw following their slender defeat to Derby County in the Championship.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has insisted that his side deserved to take a point from their 1-0 Championship defeat to Derby County.

The Tractor Boys boss believes that there was nothing to separate the promotion-chasing teams beside a mistake by Tommy Smith, which allowed Chris Martin to score the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

"Derby are a good side but it was a nothing game and certainly no spectacle," McCarthy told reporters.

"It probably should have ended 0-0 but we made a mistake [through Smith] and it cost us. Tommy has come in at the end and apologised but no apology was needed, we all make mistakes."

The result saw Derby leapfrog Ipswich into second place in the Championship table.
