Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri admits "it will be difficult" for Cristiano Ronaldo to be fit for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Ajax.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that "it will be difficult" for Cristiano Ronaldo to be fit for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Ajax on April 10.

Ronaldo picked up a thigh injury while representing Portugal during the recent international break and missed Juve's 1-0 win over Empoli in Serie A at the weekend.

Allegri has revealed that the attacker is heading in the right direction when it comes to his recovery, but conceded that he could miss the trip to Ajax next Wednesday.

"Cristiano is working to get back, we hope to have him ready for Ajax, but it will be difficult. Today's exam is much better, the leg is much better, then there is a clinical examination and the player's symptoms," Allegri told Juve's official website.

"There are still nine days to go, so we still have time to evaluate things together. He is doing things he can do right now, it is normal that you have to be careful in everything and evaluate pros and cons."

Ronaldo has scored 24 times in 36 appearances for Juve since a move from Real Madrid last summer.
