Alessandro del Piero: 'Gianluigi Buffon will regret comments'

Juventus legend Alessandro del Piero does not agree with Gianluigi Buffon's scathing criticism of referee Michael Oliver on Wednesday night.

Juventus legend Alessandro del Piero has insisted that he does not agree with Gianluigi Buffon's scathing criticism of referee Michael Oliver following Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg with Real Madrid.

Buffon has accused the English official of having "a rubbish bin instead of a heart" after the veteran goalkeeper was sent off in the latter stages of the clash at the Bernabeu.

The quarter-final between looked to be heading for extra time after the Serie A giants scored three times at the Bernabeu to level the aggregate score at 3-3.

Real Madrid were awarded a penalty in second-half stoppage time when Lucas Vazquez was felled by Juventus centre-back Medhi Benatia, however, and Cristiano Ronaldo found the top corner to send the holders through.

Buffon was red-carded for putting his hands on the referee, and Del Piero has claimed that the 40-year-old will regret what he said after the match.

"When Gigi spoke about the referee... I found it hard to understand, honestly," Del Piero told Sky Italia.

"I don't understand why we should refer to the first leg, that's how football is and you analyse the moment, whether it's nice or ugly. I think in a few days he'll say different things about the referee than what he said."

Juventus will return to Serie A action with a home game against Sampdoria this weekend.
