Reports in Italy claim that Southampton have joined the race for Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Southampton have joined the race to sign Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero.

The 37-year-old was released last season after 20 years at the Turin club.

However, the Italian has insisted that he is not ready to retire just yet, leading to clubs across the world chasing his signature.

The forward has been linked with moves to Swiss side FC Sion and Australia's Sydney FC, though no deal has been done yet.

Now, the Italian press have linked newly-promoted Saints with the veteran, claiming that they are keen on bringing him to St Mary's on a two-year deal.

Nigel Adkins's side have already signed from the Serie A this summer, capturing Gaston Ramirez from Bologna on deadline day.
