Half-Time Report: Leeds United level with Ipswich Town

Leeds United are unable to breakthrough before half time against high-flying Ipswich Town.

Leeds United go in at half time level with playoff-chasing Ipswich Town, but may wonder how they failed to take the lead at Elland Road.

Ipswich almost took the lead with only 15 seconds on the clock as debutant Chris Wood teed up Luke Varney, only for the forward to see his shot blocked.

Leeds could have edged in front themselves in the early stages as Luke Murphy's strike was kept out by Bartosz Bialkowski.

With the game less than seven minutes old and continuing at a frenetic pace, the Whites squandered another chance to break the deadlock as Lewis Cook's cross found Billy Sharp, but the frontman was unable to test Bialkowski.

United looked to be in the ascendancy as Alex Mowatt was afforded time to deliver into the box, although Sol Bamba's subsequent header was off target.

Midway through the half, Bamba again went close as he headed Luke Murphy's cross inches wide of the Ipswich goal.

Leeds continued to enjoy the greater attacking opportunities and later in the half, Sharp went close after heading Sam Byram's cross just over the bar.

With the interval approaching, Giuseppe Bellusci almost found a way past Bialkowski, but his free kick just missed the target.
