Massimo Cellino eyes Premier League return

New Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino vows to steer the club back into the Premier League within two years.

New Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has vowed to help the club return to the Premier League within two years.

Cellino's protracted takeover was eventually completed yesterday when he won an appeal against the Football League's initial decision to refuse to ratify him as owner after he was found guilty of tax evasion.

The Italian, who also owns Serie A side Cagliari, promised to invest in the squad in the upcoming summer transfer window with a view to winning promotion to the top flight the season after next.

"I don't want to make promises I can't keep and I admit it will be difficult to get promotion next season. But in 2015-16 we will earn our way back to the Premier League, which is where Leeds belong," Cellino told The Sun.

"A lot of work needs to be done on the squad. We need new players. In the summer, we will buy some players. I want to focus on English and international players."

Leeds have been out of the Premier League for a decade having been relegated in the 2003-04 season.
