Paul Jewell: 'Red card was turning point'

Paul Jewell believes his Ipswich Town side were fortunate to beat Leeds United at the weekend.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has claimed that the red card handed to Leeds United's Aidan White was a major factor behind his side winning the encounter between the two teams on Saturday.

Hosts Ipswich trailed at half-time courtesy of a goal from Leeds midfielder Ross McCormack, but the Blues hit back after the break with strikes from Jason Scotland and Keith Andrews.

"Leeds were dominant in the first half and I was happy to get in at half-time as we were," Jewell told the club's official website.

"The red card was the turning point. I was more interested in getting the penalty than the sending-off but it lifted the crowd and they were magnificent in the second-half.

"Leeds will feel aggrieved and the luck was on our side. It's a huge sigh of relief. After being beat in the last two games, where we conceded five and seven, it was never going to be pretty."

After the international break Ipswich travel to Blackpool on Saturday, September 10.
